Bihar Elections Results 2025 Impact on Stock Market: Indian equity markets opened lower on Friday. The decline came after a sharp sell-off in Asian markets and weak closing on Wall Street. Investors are also tracking the Bihar Assembly Election Results 2025 and the October wholesale inflation data.
The Nifty50 opened at 25,767.90, down 111.25 points or 0.43 per cent from its previous close of 25,879.15. The BSE Sensex started at 84,060.14, lower by 418.53 points or 0.50 per cent.
Market expert and Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi explained how the market may react as counting progresses.
Singhvi said the market is expecting the NDA to form a full-majority government in Bihar. He added that the reaction will depend on the seat numbers.
Here are Possible scenarios:
- If NDA wins 140–150 seats, the reaction may be neutral to slightly positive.
- Markets have already rallied in the past two days due to exit polls.
- If the contest becomes tight or if early trends show an NDA setback, markets may fall sharply.
Singhvi said that in a negative scenario:
- Nifty may slip first to 25,700, and later to 25,500.
- Bank Nifty may fall first to 57,650, and then to 57,150.
Counting of votes for the Bihar assembly election began at 8am on Friday. Early numbers pointed to an edge for the National Democratic Alliance. Market participants tracked the trends closely due to the political impact on policy and state spending.
By 10am, trends showed the NDA ahead in 161 seats. The Mahagathbandhan was leading in 77 seats. Within the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party crossed the 50-mark and was ahead in 70 seats. Analysts said the early gap may support short-term market sentiment if the trend continues through the day.
On the candidate front, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was leading in Raghopur. He is the chief ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan. Singer Maithili Thakur, contesting her first election on a BJP ticket, was ahead in Alinagar. Markets are watching key constituencies to assess the stability of the next state government.
