Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity markets closed higher on Monday, led by broad-based buying across sectors. The BSE Sensex rose 485.35 points, or 0.58 per cent, to end at 84,065.75. The NSE Nifty 50 gained 173.60 points, or 0.68 per cent, to settle at 25,867.30.
The Sensex opened at 84,177.51 and traded between a high of 84,314.68 and a low of 83,860.42. The Nifty opened at 25,888.70 and held on to gains for most of the session.
Banking stocks were the key drivers of the rally. State Bank of India surged 7.57 per cent, while Kotak Mahindra Bank rose 1.33 per cent. Among other heavyweights, Titan gained 3.10 per cent and UltraTech Cement advanced 2.36 per cent.
IT stocks were largely mixed. TCS, HCL Technologies, and Infosys ended with marginal gains or losses. On the downside, NTPC slipped 1.05 per cent and Power Grid declined 1.31 per cent.
Sector-wise, PSU banks outperformed. The Nifty PSU Bank index jumped 3.34 per cent. Media stocks rallied sharply, with the Nifty Media index up 4.37 per cent. Nifty Consumer Durables climbed 3.60 per cent, while Nifty Realty rose 2.61 per cent.
Nifty Metal gained 1.56 per cent and Nifty Pharma added 1.50 per cent. Nifty IT was nearly flat at 0.02 per cent. Nifty Auto rose 0.99 per cent, Nifty Bank gained 0.91 per cent, and Nifty Financial Services advanced 1.25 per cent.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1.58 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 jumped 2.64 per cent. The Nifty 500 gained 1.06 per cent. The Nifty Next 50 added 0.97 per cent, and the Nifty Microcap index climbed 2.59 per cent.
