Flight operations will continue only to and from T3 Terminal of the Delhi airport.
Quoting sources, this report said that the Delhi international airport will shut down its T2 terminal from 17 May 17 as the number of flights have reduced significantly due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“From May 17 midnight, all flights will be handled at the T3 terminal only” this report said quoting the sources.
The Delhi airport is currently handling around 325 flights per day as against 1500 flights per day before the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic began, this report said quoting these sources.
The decision is in the wake of growing number of cases across the country forcing curbs on the number of flight operations in a day. Several reports have suggested that the airline companies have been badly hit because of the pandemic forcing lockdowns. The second wave has put a dent in the recovery process.
During the last few weeks, the number of domestic air passengers per day have come down from more than 2.2 lakh to around 75,000 right now, according to the Civil Aviation Ministry's data, this PTI report said.
Similarly, international air traffic has also been affected by the second wave of the pandemic, it claimed.
