Train services disrupted in Gujarat amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions

As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, railway services in Gujarat have been disrupted and additional security measures are being rolled out across border regions, particularly in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

The Western Railway has announced the cancellation of several trains operating in sensitive areas to prioritise public safety. In a post on social media platform X, the railway zone informed that five key trains on the Bhuj, Rajkot, and Gandhidham routes stand cancelled.

Among the affected services are the Ahmedabad–Bhuj Namo Bharat Rapid Rail (Train No. 94801) scheduled for May 9 and its return journey, Bhuj–Ahmedabad (Train No. 94802), on May 10. The Jodhpur–Gandhidham Superfast Express (Train No. 22483) and Gandhidham–Jodhpur Superfast Express (Train No. 22484) have also been cancelled on May 9 and 10, respectively. Additionally, the Bhuj–Rajkot–Bhuj Special Train (Train Nos. 09446/09445), set to operate on May 10, has been called off.

In light of the prevailing situation, the Gujarat government has imposed a statewide ban on the flying of drones and the use of firecrackers at all public and private gatherings until May 15. Citizens have been urged not to pay heed to rumours and to follow all official guidelines strictly.

A high-level meeting chaired by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was held to assess the situation and ensure coordination between administrative and security agencies. The state has emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace and order.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan has also stepped up security in its border districts. In Jaisalmer, similar restrictions on drones and firecrackers are in place, particularly for social events such as weddings.

In a precautionary move, a two-day evening blackout has been declared in the tourist town of Mount Abu for May 9 and 10, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tourists visiting from Gujarat and other states have been advised to return to their hotels before 7 p.m. and switch off all lights during the designated blackout period.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to take further action if necessary to ensure the safety of citizens in the border regions.
