Passengers travelling through stations under Central Railway will have to pay more for several food and snack items from June 1, 2026, after the railway administration approved revised rates for food products sold at station stalls.
The revised pricing will apply across all stations under Central Railway jurisdiction. Railway officials said the move was aimed at balancing rising input costs while also improving the quality of food served to passengers.
Batata vada, pav bhaji among items that get costlier
Under the revised rates, a 50-gram batata vada will now cost Rs 15. The pav served along with the vada will be charged separately at Rs 5.
Popular snack items such as veg samosa, veg puff and sabudana vada will now be priced at Rs 20 each.
The price of pav bhaji, one of the most commonly purchased food items at railway stations in Maharashtra, has been revised to Rs 50. Veg pizza will also be sold at Rs 50 under the new pricing structure.
Meanwhile, masala dosa will cost Rs 35, while a serving of two pieces of idli with sambar and chutney will be available at Rs 30.
No change in prices of some popular snacks
The railway administration has kept prices unchanged for a few items. Misal pav will continue to be sold at Rs 35, while kachori will remain priced at Rs 15. Dabeli will continue to be available for Rs 20.
Officials said the revised rates were finalised after reviewing current market conditions and operational costs at station food stalls.
Railway asks vendors to improve food quality
Along with the price revision, Central Railway has also instructed food vendors and stall operators to improve the quality of food and maintain hygiene standards at stations.
The railway administration has made it mandatory for all stalls to display bilingual rate lists so that passengers can clearly view item prices in multiple languages.
Officials also said regular inspections will be conducted to check overcharging complaints and monitor food quality at station stalls. The inspections will be carried out periodically across stations to ensure compliance with the new rules.
The latest revision is expected to impact daily commuters and long-distance travellers who frequently purchase snacks and meals at railway stations.
