<p>The New Delhi Railway Station has been given a major infrastructure upgrade with the opening of a modern passenger facility centre, just days ahead of Diwali. The new centre aims to improve crowd management, reduce congestion and enhance passenger convenience during the peak festive season.</p>
<p>Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the newly developed centre and reviewed the station’s arrangements for passenger movement and crowd control. She interacted with travellers to gather feedback and ensure that the new amenities meet public expectations during the festive season.</p>

<p>The revamped station premises have been divided into three separate ticketing zones to handle the expected surge in passengers more efficiently. Railway officials said this restructuring will help reduce congestion on platforms and prevent overcrowding - a key concern during peak travel days.</p>
<p>The new system comes after a tragic incident earlier this year when a stampede triggered by overcrowding at the same station led to the loss of 18 lives. Authorities said that the upgraded facility will help prevent a repeat of such events and ensure a smoother travel experience.</p>
<p>Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the new centre represents a proactive step to make festive travel safer and more comfortable. "During the festive season, Delhi's railway stations witness heavy rush as people travel to their hometowns for Diwali and Chhath Puja. In the past, we have seen unfortunate incidents due to overcrowding. I am glad that such a large passenger convenience centre has been inaugurated to manage the rush effectively," she said.</p>
<p>Accompanying her on the inspection was BJP MP from North-East Delhi, Manoj Tiwari, who said the initiative reflects lessons learnt from previous incidents. "The government is alert and cautious this time. We have created a large holding area and set up the country's largest unreserved ticket counter, so passengers can get their tickets easily and board trains without long queues," he said.</p>
<h2><strong>Additional trains to ease travel towards Bihar and beyond</strong></h2>
<p>To further address the surge in passenger numbers, Chief Minister Gupta announced that around 3,000 additional trains have been introduced during the festive season, many of which will connect Delhi with Bihar and other parts of eastern India.</p>
<p>"This will ensure that our brothers and sisters from Purvanchal can reach their homes safely and celebrate the festivals with happiness," she said, adding that the initiative was part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure safe, efficient and inclusive travel.</p>
<p>Officials said that the New Delhi facility is part of a wider plan to modernise railway stations across the country. The model introduced here - focusing on crowd regulation, digital ticketing and comfort, is expected to be replicated at other high-traffic stations in the coming months.</p>
