Budget 2021 Expectations: In a major development, the IRCTC is planning to take this huge step to increase its revenues through its food menu on offer. Indian Railways could introduce ready-to-eat meals and the decision on this could come in this Budget 2021. Railway has joined hands with companies like Haldiram, ITC, MTR, Wagh Bakri and other big food giants. Zee Business' Sameer Dixit has this EXCLUSIVE report!

Dixit said that the big news is emerging from the stable of IRCTC, where the government now has trained its guns for speedy implementation of solutions for travellers. The government is also looking at ways to compensate for the losses incurred by IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) in its catering business because of the ongoing pandemic situation.

The new avenue that is likely to be explored by the Indian Railways is the ready-to-eat segment via IRCTC, a concept that is widely followed in the airline industry, he said.

The government is planning to implement the same model even in the Railways and has already tied up with top companies in this segment, he added.

The big names which have been taken into the fold include MTR, Wagh Bakri, Haldiram and ITC. All these companies are now planning to move in tandem with the IRCTC. Though, there are some problems that are being faced to implement this and are now in the process of getting ironed out.

He said that any major announcement with regards to this is expected to come in the Budget 2021 announcements.

This will be a big opportunity for IRCTC to compensate for its losses by entering into the ready-to-eat segment.

This will also give an additional option to the passengers to try ready-to-eat food while travelling in trains.

Win-Win Situation for IRCTC and Pvt Companies

Dixit said that this will also be a win-win situation for IRCTC and private companies as the contract for Indian Railways will be significant.
