Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Indian Railways has taken a major leap in transforming the nation's rail travel with the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. This new state-of-the-art sleeper train promises to offer a world-class travel experience, combining luxury, speed, and cutting-edge technology for long-distance journeys, as per the official release.

Successful Trials and First Set Completion

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train's first 16-car set successfully completed its trial runs on January 15, 2025, covering a 540 km stretch between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This milestone followed a series of tests in the Kota division, where the train demonstrated its capabilities, achieving speeds of 180 km/h over distances of 30-40 km. Manufactured by Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, the train was completed in December 2024.

Advanced Features for Passenger Comfort

Designed with comfort and convenience in mind, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train features three classes: AC 1st Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier, accommodating a total of 1,128 passengers. Passengers will enjoy cushioned berths, automatic doors, onboard Wi-Fi, and enhanced safety features such as crash buffers and fire barrier walls. The train’s design, which includes an aircraft-like appearance, promises a smoother, quieter, and more comfortable journey.

Expansion Plans and Production Timeline

Following the successful trial, Indian Railways plans to roll out nine more Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Sets between April and December 2025. The production of the 24-car version will commence in 2026-27. To ensure smooth operations, Indian Railways has placed an order for propulsion systems with Indian manufacturers Medha and Alstom, with delivery expected within the next two years.
