In the Union Budget 2026–27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that villages, farmers, and women will play a key role in India’s growth. As part of this vision, the government announced the She-Mart scheme to promote economic empowerment of rural women.Under this scheme, the government will set up retail markets in villages entirely run by women. Women can sell their products, such as handicrafts, food items, textiles, and other local goods, directly to customers. The focus is to make women business owners, not just workers, so their earnings remain in their hands.The scheme also supports women’s self-help groups with loans, training, and government assistance, enabling them to expand their businesses from villages to larger cities.
