Industrialist B R Shetty was conferred the P V Sami memorial Industrial and Socio-Cultural award for 2017 at a function here today.
Union Minister of State for 'AYUSH', Shripad Yesso Naik presented the award at the function held at Tagore Centenary hall here, presided over by the State Janata Dal (United) president, M P Veerendra Kumar, MP.
Naik congratulated Shetty for bagging the award by his contribution to the industrial sector and by providing employment opportunities to scores of young people.
"India has become an important destination of Foreign Direct Investment because of several progressive measures initiated by the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre attracting leading industrialists across the world," he said.
The award instituted by the P V Sami Memorial Trust in memory of veteran freedom fighter and philanthropist P V Sami carries a plaque and citation.
Shetty is a native of Udupi in Karnataka and Founder of Abu Dhabi based NMC Healthcare and Chairman of UAE Exchange.
He has been chosen for the award by a panel, comprising Veerendra Kumar, Dr C K Ramachandran and noted Malayalam film director Sathyan Anthikkad.
