Republic Day 2022 Parade: In pics! Meet India's first woman Rafale pilot Shivangi Singh heading IAF tableau

As the defence forces showcased their strength during the Republic Day celebrations, the Indian Air Force(IAF) tableau displayed the theme "Indian Air Force Transforming for the future".

As the defence forces showcased their strength during the Republic Day celebrations, the Indian Air Force(IAF) tableau displayed the theme "Indian Air Force Transforming for the future". In addition, the IAF provided a live feed to the public broadcasting its aircraft, providing viewers with the pilot's and cockpit's view. In the Amrit formation, seventeen Jaguar jets flew, forming the number '75', marking the 75th Independence Day to be celebrated this year. In a major first, the parade saw a flypast by 75 IAF planes. The flypast was introduced from both the cockpit and the pilot's point of view with special arrangements.

Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh becomes the first woman Rafale fighter jet pilot.

-The tableau showcased models of MiG-21, Gnat, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Aslesha radar and Rafale aircraft. 

-Last year, Flight Lieutenant Bhawna Kanth had become the first female fighter jet pilot to be part of the Indian Air Force(IAF) tableau. Likewise, this year country's first woman Rafale fighter jet pilot Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh, was part of the Indian Air Force tableau at the Republic Day parade.

Shivangi Singh Hails from Varanasi

-Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh is from Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh state and joined the IAF in 2017. She flew the MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft before flying the Rafale. 

-Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh is part of the IAF's Golden Arrows squadron based in Ambala in India's Punjab state.

Shivangi Singh Flew MiG-21 'Bison

-Ft Lt Shivangi had earlier flown the MiG-21 'Bison' along with Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was involved in a dogfight with Pakistani F-16s over the India-Pakistan border in February last year. 

-Shivangi Singh studied at the Banaras Hindu University and was commissioned as a fighter pilot three years ago.
