Budget 2019: Meet FM Arun Jaitley's team - This crack squad has a big task at hand from Modi govt

Budget 2019: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is too busy along with his team involved in making interim budget which will be presented in the Lok Sabha in February 2019. Since the budget is keenly watched due to poll year, it would be interesting to see what Team Jaitley will come up with. Although Arun Jaitley heads the crack team, who else are the other members going through sleepless nights to give a final shape to the financial statement of the NDA government. These are the key faces comprising a team of 5 members:-

1. Subhash Chandra Garg

A 1983 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, Subhash Chandra Garg is the current Economic Affairs Secretary. He was also the part of the team of the Budget 2018. He has also served as an Executive Director at the World Bank. A graduate degree in Law (LLB) and Commerce (BCom) from Rajasthan University, Garg is a professionally qualified Cost and Works Accountant, besides a qualified Company Secretary. 2. Atanu Chakraborty

Atanu Chakraborty, who is a Gujarat cadre IAS officer of 1985 batch, is serving the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management as its secretary. With a wide experience of over 22 years of working in the various state as well as Central government Departments, Chakraborty has also been Managing Director Gujarat Petroleum Corporation. Chakraborty is an engineering graduate and is said to have specialisation in electronics and communication, besides completing Post Graduate Diploma in Business Finance and later an MBA from the UK (Business Administration). 3. Ajay Bhushan Pandey

A Maharashtra cadre IAS officer of 1984 batch, Ajay Bhushan Pandey was appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the nodal agency responsible for implementing Aadhaar. A BTech in computer science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Pandey has also been given the additional charge of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Network as its chairperson in September 2017. 4. Ajay Narayan Jha 

Ajay Narayan Jha is finance secretary, after Hasmukh Adhia, a 1981-batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer, retired on November 20, 2018. A 1982-batch IAS officer of Manipur Tripura cadre, 59-year old Jha is an alumnus of St Stephens College from where he completed graduation and post-graduation in history. Jha, who is also an MPhil in public administration from Delhi University, is a recipient of World Bank scholarship to pursue masters in economic policy management from McGill University in Canada. 5. Girish Chandra Murmu 

A 1985-batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, Murmu is currently holding the charge as Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services in the Ministry of Finance. A key member of the budget team, Murmu will take charge of expenditure secretary on January 31, 2019. Earlier, he has served as Narendra Modi’s principal secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, Gujarat.
