World Consumer Rights Day 2023: World Consumer Rights Day is observed on March 15 every year globally. The day aims to raise global awareness among consumers about their rights as well as promote consumer protection. The day is also celebrated to protest against market abuses and social injustices which undermine consumer rights. The annual event is accredited by the United Nations and celebrates solidarity within the international consumer movement.
The theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2023 is "Empowering Consumers Through Clean Energy Transitions." The theme this year aims to raise awareness of consumer empowerment and push their role for a faster clean energy transition.
As per the Consumer International website, last year global energy prices rose by 50 per cent, impacting people everywhere and causing many to drastically change their lifestyles to pay for energy.
The official website read, "Coming together for change in energy transitions, we will both support consumers through the cost-of-living crisis and help to meet net zero targets by promoting access to sustainable energy globally."
"As per the Global insights survey, 81 per cent reported that consumers are adjusting their budgets so they can pay their energy bills," the website added.
