Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday inaugurated Income Tax Day 2017 at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. At the event, Jaitley released a Coffee Table Book of the Income Tax Department. 
Speaking on the occassion, FM Jaitley said that mindset of people is changing as larger public opinion is why anyone should be exempted from tax.

Series of steps taken by Govt are intended to widen the tax base, eliminate corruption and incentivise the honest tax payers, he mentioned. 
Further, Jaitley praised Revenue Secretary, Minister of Finance, Hasmukh Adhia for successful implementation of Income Declaration Scheme and activities during and after demonetisation. 
With just six days in hand to file Income Tax Return for financial year 2017, Jaitley said, "Non-compliance is defended in name of privacy. Its our national duty to pay the due taxes. non compliants are also following standard operating procedures these days. We will ensure transparency, simplicity in process and minimum possible direct interface between assessees and ITD Officers."
For filing ITR the government has taken sea of steps to make the process simple for taxpayers. Like introduction Form-Sahaj, Aaykar Setu, e-tax payment and others.
