Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said this year’s Union Budget reinforces the government’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening economic growth, as India positions itself as a reliable manufacturing and trade partner in a rapidly evolving global economy.

Addressing a post-Budget webinar on “Sustaining and Strengthening Economic Growth”, the Prime Minister said India’s economic direction and resolve are clear. “Build more, produce more, connect more and export more,” he said, outlining the government’s long-term growth roadmap.

The webinar marked the second instalment of the Budget Webinar series, following a successful first session that generated key suggestions for effective implementation of Budget proposals.

India poised to play bigger role in global manufacturing

Modi said global supply chains are being reshaped and the world is actively looking for reliable and resilient manufacturing partners. “India has the opportunity to firmly fulfil this role,” he said, adding that the country’s strong economic momentum forms the backbone of the vision for Viksit Bharat.

He emphasised that manufacturing, logistics, MSMEs and urban centres are interconnected pillars of one economic structure, noting that the Union Budget has strengthened each of these segments.

Quality along with FTA important for development

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address highlighted that policy direction single handedly will not deliver results, it needs support from industry, financial institutions and state governments. He urged stakeholders to focus on increasing production, improving cost competitiveness and scaling manufacturing.

Highlighting India’s Free Trade Agreements with several countries, Modi said these pacts have opened vast opportunities for Indian businesses. However, he stressed that quality standards must not be compromised and products should be aligned with global consumer preferences.

MSMEs, infrastructure and urbanisation

On MSMEs, PM Narendra Modi stated that the recent classification reforms have been focused on removing the fear of expansion among small enterprises. He requested MSMEs to boost productivity, adopt digital processes and integrate with global value chains to compete internationally.

He also highlighted record capital expenditure in the Budget, with infrastructure and logistics forming the core of the growth strategy. Expansion of high-speed rail, multimodal connectivity and ship repair facilities were cited as critical initiatives.

On urbanisation, the Prime Minister said India’s future growth will depend on better planning and management of cities, particularly Tier-II and Tier-III centres, which can emerge as new growth anchors.

Sustainability now a business imperative

Modi said global markets now look beyond cost and increasingly factor in sustainability. He highlighted the Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage Mission and urged industries to integrate clean technology into their core strategies.

“Industries that invest in clean technology in time will gain better access to new markets in the coming years,” he said.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister called for collective ownership of India’s development goals and urged stakeholders to convert discussions into action, saying every suggestion has the potential to deliver tangible results on the ground.
