In a significant move to enhance digital convenience for Aadhaar cardholders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a set of reforms aimed at making Aadhaar updates faster, simpler, and fully online, effective from Saturday, according to an IANS report.

Under the new scheme, a person can change important information such as name, address, date of birth, or mobile number through the UIDAI portal. Such a procedure will be carried out digitally. Together with that UIDAI, has proclaimed that users' submitted information will undergo digital verification in association with linked government documents such as PAN cards, passports, driving licenses, or ration cards. So, there will be a mix of both speed and accuracy in the processing of updates.

Also, the government has fixed December 31, 2025, as the last date for Aadhaar-PAN linking, and from January 1, 2026, there will be a process to deactivate PAN cards that remain unlinked to an Aadhaar number after that date.

“As part of the procedure, new PAN applicants will also need to finish an Aadhaar-based verification,” UIDAI said, IANS reported.

Streamlined KYC and new fee structure

UIDAI has also simplified the digital Know Your Customer (KYC) process for banks and other financial institutions. Users will now be able to confirm their identity through video KYC, Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, or optional in-person verification, depending on their preference.

The authority has introduced a revised service fee structure, effective November 1. Under the new system:

Aadhaar reprint: Rs 40

Biometric update: Rs 125

Demographic update: Rs 75

Home enrollment: Rs 700 for the first applicant, and Rs 350 for each additional person at the same address

Citizen-centric digital reforms

The new digital reforms will make Aadhaar services more secure, easy to use, and accessible for everyone. People can now update or manage their Aadhaar details from the comfort of their homes.
