Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tweet about lighting lamps of hope and good health during the COVID-19 pandemic was the most retweeted post in Indian politics in 2020, Twitter India has confirmed. During his '9 PM-9 Minutes' public address on April 3, Modi requested people across the country to light lamps from the safety of their homes as a symbolic gesture of solidarity towards to Covid warriors and to give strength to one another, the micro-blogging site said.

Giving a round-up of the happenings in the Twitterverse, the micro-blogging site said 2020 was a unique year for everyone, which means conversation on Twitter was unique too.

"As the world grappled with a global pandemic, Indians took to Twitter to stay informed, connected and entertained while talking about their passions, re-discovering interests and having diverse conversations," Twitter India said.
Meanwhile, COVID-19, Tamil actor Vijay's selfie with his fans, Virat Kohli's post about Anushka Sharma's pregnancy, Ramayan and Mahabharat became some of the most popular topics of conversations in the country during the year on Twitter.
According to Twitter's #ThisHappened2020 list, Tamil actor Vijay's tweet of a selfie with his fans was the 'most retweeted tweet of 2020' (over 1.61 lakh), while Virat Kohli's celebratory post announcing wife Anushka Sharma's pregnancy was the 'most liked tweet of 2020' (6.44 lakh likes).
Amitabh Bachchan's tweet on being diagnosed for COVID-19 also featured among the 'golden tweets', reflect trends that Indians discussed on the platform in 2020. The list was based on total number of retweets/ likes/ quote tweets by Twitter accounts in India between January 1 to November 15 this year.
