Stock Markets Today: Sensex, Nifty open positively; SBI, ICICI Bank shares gain in early morning trade

Both the Sensex and Nifty 50 were up by almost 0.5 per cent within minutes of the opening.While the Sensex was trading at 36504.60, up by over 175 points soon after the markets opened, the broader market NSE Nifty 50 was trading 10760.45, up by over 54 points around this time
Reversing Wednesday’s losses, the stock markets today opened in the green. Both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 were up by almost 0.5 per cent within minutes of the opening of the markets today. While the Sensex was trading at 36504.60, up by over 175 points soon after the markets opened, the broader market NSE Nifty 50 was trading 10760.45, up by over 54 points around this time.
In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 24 stocks were trading in the green in the morning trade while the remaining were trading in the red. The top gainers on Thursday in the early trade were Indusind Bank, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance and SBI while the top losers were Tech Mahindra, ITC, HDFC, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Meanwhile, Indusind Bank, Hindalco Industries, ICICI Bank, Vedanta Limited and SBI were the top gainers on Nifty Fifty on Thursday in the opening trade. The top losers were Bharti Infratel, Tech Mahindra, Hero Motocorp, Hindustan Unilever and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Today, the USDINR futures were trading at around 75.1150 against the USD at 9:25 am on BSE.
On Wednesday, the Sensex ended at 36,329.01, falling by almost 0.9 per cent while the Nifty 50 closed at 10705.75, also down by almost 0.9 per cent. The Indian stock markets traded with a negative sentiment on Wednesday with Nifty indices - Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty IT all trading negatively.
Asian stocks were expected to rise on Thursday, as hopes of a robust economic recovery offset concerns over flare-ups in the coronavirus pandemic, and as investors looked ahead to earnings season. Australian S&P/ASX 200 futures were up 0.85 per cent, Japan`s Nikkei 225 futures added 0.16 per cent, and Hong Kong`s Hang Seng index futures rose 0.82 per cent. E-mini futures for the S&P 500 edged up 0.08 per cent.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.68 per cent and the S&P 500 gained 0.78 per cent.
