Electronics exports from India reached a major milestone by crossing the $47 billion mark for the first time ever in 2025, according to a official data, marking a significant level of $47 billion or more than Rs 4.15 lakh crore.

Exports jump 37 per cent from previous year

The total electronic exports of 2024 was $34.93 billion. Meanwhile, The current figure reflects a sharp increase of 37 per cent. The impressive growth points towards the strong potential of Indian electronics, mainly smartphones.

December exports stay strong at $4.17 billion

In December 2025, electronics exports stood at $4.17 billion, an increase of 16.8 per cent compared to $3.58 billion during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Putting all emphasis on the smartphones, the export figure for 2025 is equivalent to a little over 38 percent of India’s total smartphone exports in the last five years.

The entire export value of smartphones from India for the period 2021 to 2025 was nearly $79.03 billion, where the year 2025 set the record for the highest 12 month export figure.

Apple iPhones dominate India’s smartphone exports

Apple's iPhone sales consisting of about 75 per cent of the total sales during this period were worth over $22 billion.

Recently, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the initiative would continue in 2026 with four new semiconductor plants, which are expected to start commercial production, going online.

The Indian people managed to export iPhones worth more than Rs 2 lakh crores to Apple in 2025, which was an increase of nearly 85 percent compared to 2024 exports.

India emerges as second-largest mobile phone producer

As a result, India has succeeded to take the second place in the list of the largest mobile phone producers globally and the local production is covering more than 99 percent of the sold in the country handsets.

Such a change has given India the opportunity to move up in the electronic manufacturing value chain and to produce more advanced products like smartphones and high-end electronic components, as reported by IANS .

Still, the government is whispered to be searching for ways to prolong the program which will allow the electronics sector to keep on receiving the support and the export growth to be continued.

The electronics exports of India, especially that of smartphones, have touched new heights in 2025 with government encouragement, strong global demand, and investments in semiconductor manufacturing being the major factors that make India a great place for the future electronics export expansion.

This will not only be a remarkable contribution to the Indian economy but also to the presence of the global trade market.

The smartphone PLI scheme is set to expire in March 2026, but the government has already begun to weigh the option of continued support.
