The government is scheduled to introduce four key bills in Parliament on Monday, December 15, with its Winter Session currently in motion. The development comes as the Narendra Modi 3.0 government is pushing a host of pieces of legislation in the current session, which will be followed by the Budget session in end-February.
The four bills are:
The Repealing and Amending Bill is aimed at repealing and amending certain enactments, according to official documents.
This bill will be tabled by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
This bill is aimed at giving universities and other educational institutions more teeth in strengthening the country's education system and as self-governing bodies.
The bill will be tabled by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
This bill is aimed at promoting nuclear energy development in the country, with a special emphasis on applications ranging from healthcare, food and water to agriculture.
It will be introduced by Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
The bill is aimed at establishing a rural development framework in the country aligned with the government's 'Viksit Bharat by 2047' (Developed India by 2047) vision.
The bill will include a provision for a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment per financial year to every rural household.
Through the introduction of this bill, the government plans to replace the long-standing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to offer a revamped rural employment framework with more days of work.
The MGNREGA offers a guarantee of at least 100 days of wage employment per financial year to every rural household with adult volunteers for unskilled manual work.
