Delhi is set to see tighter water management this summer as Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparedness amid rising temperatures. The move comes as the Delhi government rolls out a detailed water supply plan aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply, faster grievance redressal and targeted support for water-scarce areas during peak demand.
The meeting, held at the Secretariat on Monday, reviewed progress of key water projects. Gupta directed officials to ensure there is no lapse in supply or response, warning that negligence would invite strict action. “Our focus is not limited to immediate relief. We are simultaneously working on long-term solutions to free Delhi from recurring drinking water shortages,” she said.
Senior officials, including Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, along with teams from the Delhi Jal Board, attended the review.
To handle the heatwave-driven demand surge, the government has ordered all major water treatment plants to operate at peak capacity.
