Railway jobs 2018: In a big move, Indian Railways, which is facing acute manpower shortage, has decided to recruit employees on contractual basis to avoid time-consuming regular employment process. The national transporter will employ contractual employees against existing vacancies to makeup the staff shortage in certain areas. Indian Railways reportedly will also engage retired staff in certain areas such as railway heritage properties such as steam locomotives, vintage coaches and signals, among others.
Retired employees are equipped to handle steam engines, and other steam-powered equipments, so they can be engaged to revive heritage properties, a senior Railways official told IANS. Indian Railways Zonal heads will be given authority to engage retired employees with adequate skills. A number of steps will be taken in near future, the report said. For retired railway staff engagement, upper age limit is 65 years. The Indian Railways has already issued circulars to reengage retired employees in some sections.
