Tejashwi’s victory reinforces Raghopur as a key bastion of the Yadav family in Bihar politics.
Tejashwi, who had trailed in the early rounds, built momentum steadily through the counting process and eventually secured a comfortable margin of over 14,500 votes. His victory in Raghopur strengthens his position as a key leader in Bihar politics and reflects continued support for the Mahagathbandhan in this crucial constituency.
Raghopur, located in Vaishali district, has long been one of the most closely watched constituencies in Bihar politics. Known as a bastion of the Lalu Prasad Yadav family, it has historically alternated between RJD and BJP victories, reflecting its strategic and symbolic importance.
The constituency has been represented by several prominent leaders from the Yadav family. Lalu Prasad Yadav won Raghopur in 1995 and 2000, while Rabri Devi secured the seat three times, including a bypoll in 2000. Continuing this legacy, Tejashwi Yadav has represented Raghopur since 2015, defeating BJP’s Satish Kumar in both the 2015 and 2020 elections. In 2025, he was contesting for a third consecutive term.
Raghopur’s electorate is diverse, including a significant number of Yadav, Bania, and other backward class voters. In the 2025 elections, the constituency recorded a voter turnout of 64 per cent, demonstrating strong engagement in a high-profile contest.
Beyond being a legislative seat, Raghopur is seen as a key symbol of the RJD’s influence in Bihar. A victory here is often considered a barometer of the party’s popularity among its core supporters and a platform for leaders of the Lalu family to consolidate their political standing.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has registered a sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, capturing 202 of the 243 seats, according to the Election Commission. The opposition Mahagathbandhan managed to win just 35 seats. Within the NDA, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) secured 85 seats, nearly doubling its 2020 tally of 43. The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the single largest party, winning 89 of the 101 constituencies it contested, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) claimed 19 seats.
Among the opposition, the Rashtriya Janata Dal won 25 seats, the Congress 6, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation 2 seats. With 122 seats required to form the government in the 243-member Assembly, the NDA’s victory gives it a commanding majority.
