Pune Bridge Collapse: 2 dead, 32 injured, says CM Devendra Fadnavis; rescue operations underway

Pune Bridge Collapsed: A portion of a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed near Kundamala in Maval taluka of Pune district, causing panic and a large-scale rescue operation. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall, which had raised the river's water level.
According to IANS, around 25 to 30 tourists fell into the river following the collapse. Local police, the fire brigade, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed to the site and began rescue operations.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that two people have died in the incident.
He also expressed his condolences, saying that I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the tragedy that occurred when a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed in Indori, near Talegaon in Pune district. According to preliminary information, two people have died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tribute to them. We share the grief of their families.
The CM further stated that 32 people were injured, six of them critically, and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
He added that he is in constant communication with the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and the concerned Tehsildar.
“As some people have been swept away, a search is being carried out on a war footing. NDRF has been deployed at the spot. The relief work has been immediately accelerated. All the agencies have been ordered to be on alert mode. The Divisional Commissioner himself has left for the scene,” the CM said.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police stated that 10 to 15 people are feared trapped, while 5 to 6 individuals have been rescued so far.
A local resident, Raghuveer Shelar, who witnessed the scene, said, “This incident occurred just half an hour ago. Around 20 to 25 people have been rescued, but four to five are still missing.”
Moreover, a crane has been called to the site as part of efforts to remove the debris from the collapsed bridge.
Emergency teams are continuing rescue operations with urgency, working through challenging conditions to locate and assist those still missing.
