Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam on February 14, 2026, to inaugurate and flag off multiple development projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore, aimed at strengthening connectivity, digital infrastructure, higher education and public transport in the North-Eastern Region.
According to an official statement by PMO, the Prime Minister will land at around 10:30 am at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh, where he will also witness an aerial display of fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters.
The ELF is the first of its kind in Northeast India and has been developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force to support the landing and take-off of both military and civil aircraft during emergencies. The facility can handle fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes maximum take-off weight.
It is expected to serve as a critical asset for strategic requirements and for swift rescue and relief operations during natural disasters in the region.
Later, PM Modi will visit the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu across the River Brahmaputra in Guwahati. Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3,030 crore, the six-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge connects Guwahati with North Guwahati and is the first extradosed bridge in Northeast India.
The bridge is expected to reduce travel time between the two locations to about seven minutes. Designed keeping in mind the high seismicity of the region, it incorporates base isolation technology using friction pendulum bearings, high-performance stay cables for durability, and a Bridge Health Monitoring System for real-time condition monitoring and improved safety.
PM Modi will inaugurate and flag off several key projects at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati. Among them is the National Data Centre for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon in Kamrup district. The state-of-the-art facility, with a total sanctioned load of 8.5 MW and an average rack capacity of 10 kW per rack, will host mission-critical applications of various government departments.
It will also function as a Disaster Recovery centre for other National Data Centres, strengthening the region’s ICT backbone and supporting the Digital India vision.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, which is expected to provide a major boost to higher and management education in the North-East.
In addition, he will flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme across four cities — Guwahati (100), Nagpur (50), Bhavnagar (50) and Chandigarh (25). With the launch of e-bus operations in these cities, more than 50 lakh citizens are expected to benefit from clean, affordable and reliable public transport services.
