Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the year-long nationwide commemoration of India’s national song, Vande Mataram, tomorrow at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, according to a release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
As part of the event, the Prime Minister will also release a commemorative stamp and coin, marking the formal launch of celebrations that will run from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026. These events honour 150 years of the timeless composition that played a pivotal role in India’s freedom movement and continues to inspire national pride and unity.
The celebrations will feature a mass singing of the full version of Vande Mataram at approximately 9:50 am across public spaces nationwide. Citizens from all segments of society are expected to participate in this unified tribute, linking the central event in Delhi with communities across India.
The year 2025 marks 150 years since Vande Mataram was composed by Bankimchandra Chatterji on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami, November 7, 1875. The song first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of Chatterji’s novel Anandamath.
The song 'Vande Mataram' with its intense depiction of Motherland as a powerful, rich, and god-like being, expressed India's latent, united and self-respecting character and finally turned into a forever symbol of love for the country.
On October 1, the Indian Union Cabinet gave the green light to nationwide celebrations of the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram', which is an Indian national song with the purpose of creating a citizen movement, especially students and youth, that is connected with the song's original revolutionary spirit.
The plan is to engrave the song's legacy in the hearts of the coming generations and at the same time to pay tribute to its eternal message.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has proclaimed a widespread celebration plan of two great cultural milestones at the same time: the 150th birthday of Vande Mataram and the 150th anniversary of the birth of tribal hero Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The celebrations will fortify whole Indian cultural scene while trying to unify all the people in a common sense of patriotism and even their love for culture regardless of their ages.
The events, along with the releases all over the country and a full-year program of activities, will make it quite impossible for one not to see the anniversary celebrations of Vande Mataram as the most colorful part of India's history, cultural pride, and the constant spirit of unity of the nation.
