Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, September 25, inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025 in Greater Noida, urging industry and entrepreneurs to strengthen domestic manufacturing and ensure that Indian products meet the highest global standards. According to details shared by the Prime Minister's Office, PIB report, he said India's economy continues to perform strongly despite global uncertainty.
The Prime Minister welcomed more than 2,400 exhibitors and delegates from India and abroad, with Russia participating as the partner country this year. He noted that the event coincided with the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, whose vision of Antyodaya, "upliftment of the last person" - continues to guide India's development model.
PM Modi said India's digital infrastructure had transformed access to finance and services. He cited UPI, Aadhaar, DigiLocker and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) as platforms that ensure "progress for all". He pointed out that street vendors now access credit through the PM SVANidhi scheme, something that was once available only to large companies.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the expansion of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), which now has 25 lakh registered sellers and service providers. He said the government has so far procured goods and services worth Rs 15 lakh crore on GeM, with nearly Rs 7 lakh crore of that coming from MSMEs.
PM Modi said structural changes introduced in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from September 22 would simplify compliance, reduce disputes and speed up refunds. He gave several comparisons to show the difference for ordinary citizens.
A shirt costing Rs 1,000, which attracted nearly Rs 170 in taxes before 2014, now incurs only Rs 35. Household essentials worth Rs 100, which earlier cost Rs 131, are now billed at Rs 105. Annual household tax payments have come down from Rs 20,000-Rs25,000 before 2014 to around Rs 5,000-Rs 6,000 under the revised GST regime.
He added that tractors now carry over Rs 40,000 less tax than a decade ago, while three-wheelers are Rs 20,000 cheaper. Scooters and motorcycles have also become cheaper by Rs 8,000–Rs 9,000 compared with pre-2014 levels.
The Prime Minister said Uttar Pradesh had become central to India's industrial growth. He pointed out that the state now produces nearly 55 per cent of the country's mobile phones and will soon host a major semiconductor facility near Greater Noida.
PM Modi also highlighted progress in the state's Defence Corridor, where AK-203 rifles are set to be manufactured with Russian collaboration and production of BrahMos missiles has already begun. He urged companies to invest in Uttar Pradesh's vast network of MSMEs and produce complete products within the state.
PM Modi said India's future growth rests on uncompromising quality standards and greater investment in research. He stressed that consumers increasingly demand better indigenous products and that businesses must match these expectations. He noted that more than 40,000 compliances have been scrapped and hundreds of rules decriminalised to ease doing business. But he called for private investment in research and design, saying it was essential for India’s long-term competitiveness.
The Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show, themed "Ultimate Sourcing Begins Here", runs from September 25 to 29. It will showcase handicrafts, textiles, leather, food processing, IT, electronics and AYUSH alongside the state’s art and cuisine. Organisers expect 1.25 lakh B2B visitors and 4.5 lakh B2C visitors during the event. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior officials were present at the inauguration.
