The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a clarification regarding a misleading WhatsApp message that falsely claims to be the preliminary investigation report of the AI-171 crash by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). The PIB confirmed that this message is completely fake and has not been issued by the AAIB.
The PIB emphasized the importance of relying on official sources for accurate information and urged the public to be cautious of such misinformation circulating on social media platforms.
The AI-171 crash, involving an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, occurred on June 12, 2025, shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of 241 lives, with one survivor. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Investigators are focusing on critical systems such as engine thrust, wing flaps, and landing gear, as well as the airline’s maintenance procedures. The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) has been recovered and is expected to provide essential insights into the final moments of the flight.
The PIB Fact Check unit continues to monitor and address misinformation related to the incident. Citizens are encouraged to verify information through official channels to prevent the spread of false claims.
