According to the PIB, the bank account mentioned in the message is NOT meant for modernisation of Indian Army or for purchase of weapons.

In a wake up to fake message circulating on WhatsApp claims that the government has opened a new bank account for the modernisation of the Indian Army, the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check team has clarified that this claim is misleading on Sunday.

According to PIB Fact Check, the bank account mentioned in the viral message is not intended for the modernization of the Army or for the purchase of weapons.

Taking to a social media platform, the PIB Fact Check team shared, "A WhatsApp message is going around claiming that government has opened a bank account for the modernisation of the Indian Army. This claim is MISLEADING."

According to the PIB, the bank account mentioned in the message is NOT meant for modernisation of Indian Army or for purchase of weapons.

Instead, it is associated with the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (AFBCWF).

The AFBCWF was established to provide immediate financial assistance to the families of soldiers who have either sacrificed their lives or sustained injuries during military operations.
