Petta vs Viswasam: Thalaivar Rajinikanth's movie defeats Thala Ajith's film in Chennai - What fans should know

Petta vs Viswasam Box office collection: Thalaivar Rajinikanth's Petta and Thala Ajith's Viswasam are two big movies that were released alongside each other on January 10 and continued to earn huge at the box office so far. After day 12, Petta entered the Rs 12 crores gross club in Chennai alone. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the movie will enter an all-time number 5 very soon. He also added that this is a great run for a non-solo release. The film managed to collect Rs 0.63 crores in the city on Monday (21 Jan 2019). Petta, produced by Sun Pictures, is an action-packed commercial thriller starring Rajinikanth, Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanlal, Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sasikumar in prominent roles.

Another big release, Thala Ajith Viswasam has managed to collect the Rs 10 crore club in Chennai. The movie has collected Rs 9.80 crores after 12 days in the city. Ramesh Bala tweeted, “most Cineplexes have allocated their smaller screens, hence despite sold out shows, the total gross is on the lower side.”

Viswasam so far has earned Rs 150 crore mark at box office worldwide. It is also giving tough competition of simultaneously released Petta starring Rajinikanth. The movie has collected more than Rs 125 crore within eight days of its release in Tamil Nadu alone. Viswasam is the 1st Rs 100 crore nett movie for a single language release in India in 2019.

The movie directed by Siruthai Siva, is the fourth collaboration between Ajith and the director. It seems that a fan war between Ajith and Rajinikanth has really worked out in favour of both Petta and Viswasam as they have kept both the shows running.
