The Ministry of Defence on Sunday declared that “Jointness is not just a vision—it’s India’s operational reality,” following the successful execution of Operation Sindoor.
The action taken on May 7, 2025,marks a pivotal shift in India’s defence doctrine, emphasising integrated warfare and tri-services coordination.
Operation Sindoor was initiated in direct response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and highlighted India's ability to conduct seamless, multi-domain operations.
The Indian Air Force executed precise airstrikes on high-value targets, including the Nur Khan and Rahimyar Khan air bases.
Concurrently, the Indian Navy deployed a formidable Carrier Battle Group, reinforcing maritime dominance and strategic deterrence. On the ground, the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF) engaged in coordinated operations, further underscoring joint force effectiveness.
The operation was enabled by advanced defence infrastructure and systems, notably the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) and the Akash surface-to-air missile system. These technological assets were complemented by structural reforms such as the establishment of Integrated Theatre Commands, Joint Logistics Nodes, and the ongoing guidance of the Chief of Defence Staff-led Department of Military Affairs (DMA).
The ministry also highlighted the role of regular tri-service exercises like Prachand Prahar and Desert Hunt, which have played a key role in enhancing real-time interoperability among the armed forces.
As India observes the ‘Year of Defence Reforms 2025’, Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to the country’s unified military posture, future-readiness, and unwavering resolve to counter cross-border terrorism.
