BMC Budget 2025-26: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the governing body of Mumbai, presented an unprecedented budget of Rs 74,366 crore for the financial year 2025-26 on Tuesday, February 4. This marks a 14.19 per cent increase compared to the previous year’s budget, making it the third consecutive year that the BMC budget has surpassed the Rs 50,000 crore mark. BMC remains the richest civic corporation in India.
This year’s budget focuses on key areas such as education, transportation, healthcare, sanitation, and digital transformation, with the aim of enhancing facilities and services for the citizens of Mumbai.

Transport and Infrastructure:
- A new transport and commercial hub at Dahisar Check Naka.
Education and Technology:
- Expansion of gamified learning: 32,659 students will receive tablets.
- Development of STEM robotics labs, digital classrooms, and e-libraries.
- Reconstruction and repair of schools, with an allocation of Rs300.71 crore, which includes:
- Focus on health and hygiene.
- Establishment of new autism therapy centers.
- School health programs, mid-day meals, and distribution of sanitary napkins.
Environment and Safety:
- Installation of CCTV cameras, fire safety systems, and expansion of open gyms.
- Implementation of organic farming (kitchen gardens) in schools.
Public Transport:
- A grant of Rs,000 crore to BEST (bringing total assistance to Rs1,304.59 crore so far).
- Free bus services for BMC school students.
Revenue and Financial Management:
- BMC's total revenue for the year is projected to be Rs28,308 crore (from sources like octroi compensation and property tax).
- An additional Rs 70 crore is expected from extra FSI (Floor Space Index).
Digital and Cybersecurity
- Cyber Literacy Program with a budget of Rs 23.6 crore.
