As Valentine's Day is around the corner, restaurants, flower sellers, pubs and merchandise sellers are gearing up to tap the love in the air.
Businesses and startups are rejigging their marketing strategies to bring something fresh not only for couples and young love birds, but also strategies are set keeping in mind a large number of singles.
Keeping in mind the need of growing population of look-conscious men, retailers are targeting this segment in a big way.
Fashion designer Mithi Kalra has lined up special collections for Valentine’s Day in red, and also have introduced red-coloured bow-tie for men that they can wear with Tuxedo.
"It’s a couple’s day hence we have made sure both of them are getting something to dress up,” Kalra said.
Mohit Bhatia, founder of Fuschia by Vkare, a business-to-business startup behind many hand-made products available at hotels and restaurants, said, "During Valentine's Day, women usually gift cosmetics, but this time we have introduced a special Valentine's Day collection for men range from hydrating toner to green tea face-mask, moisturising gels for additional care of skin etc. We have decided to bring a change in the notion and even men can be gifted these hand-made cosmetics."
Shilpa Bhatia, founder of The Clothing Rental, said offline stores in Bandra and Versova were already seeing footfalls.

"We have introduced customised gowns along with matching bags. Everyone wears red on valentine’s day but for us white, pink and yellow are the colours of the season. As people gift yellow, white and pink flowers, we have gowns and dresses in all these colours and complimentary red scarves which we are giving as a gift to our customers shopping on Valentine's Day," said Bhatia.
Sumit Gulati, owner of Gulati Spice Market, said "We are serving special strawberry phirni all the day complimentary to all couples. Our restaurant will be decorated in white and red theme. There will also be nice romantic music playing to accentuate the mood."
Spice Market is a regional Indian restaurant & bar located behind Select CityWalk in Saket, New Delhi. It specializes in delicacies from different regions of India.
Food influencer Gurpreet Singh Tikku, who runs a food-community, is hosting a contest with hashtag "#KhaaneSePyaar" in association with a popcorn label where the participants have to host a picture of themselves looking at a food item with love.
Tikku said, "Through this contest we want to give food lovers a reason to smile and spread love on this Valentine’s Day. They can share a picture with their favourite valentine which is food and get rewarded for it too."
Shamit Ajmani, owner of Lavanya Group of Banquets and Storm Version 2.0, said, “Amidst the decor and happening music, there will be candle-light dinner at our restaurant and also there will be free cocktails for single girls.”
