
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday reaffirmed in a media briefing, that India stands firmly with Afghanistan in protecting its sovereignty, amid the ongoing tensions with Pakistan.
While addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that “Pakistan has an old habit of blaming its neighbours for its internal problems,” shared highlights from the briefing on his official account of X handle.
He underlined that India continues to support all efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and development in Afghanistan.
He said- "Developments that are happening on the Afghanistan and Pakistan border, we are closely monitoring the situation from which three things are clear, the first one is, Pakistan hosts terrorist organizations and sponsors terrorist activities. Second, Pakistan is habituated to blame its neighbors for its own internal failures. And third, Pakistan is furious with Afghanistan exercising sovereignty over its own territories. India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Afghanistan."
When questioned about the present condition of technical mission in Kabul, he replied- "Currently, we have a technical mission in Kabul, that has been in operation since June 2022. And in few days, the transition from this technical mission to the embassy is expected. Issue on your question about recognition. See we had Taliban Foreign Minister Muttaqi here."
During the briefing, Taliban Foreign Minister Muttaqi was also there in media briefing, they had detailed conversation, Jaiswal added.
He said - " We have given you a readout of all that was discussed from humanitarian assistance to development cooperation. Also the status upgrading of our embassy we want to do many more things in Afghanistan in the field of health we also donated on the 20 ambulances, all these things and many more things are going to be talked about in the days ahead as well."
Jaiswal highlighted that India is closely monitoring election in Myanmar, though no decision has been made yet on sending any official delegation. He added that any updated on the matter will be shared promptly.
He confirmed that India is purchasing oil from Brazil, with official details available on government websites.
Regarding energy and broader bilateral ties, he emphasized India’s “special relationship” with Bhutan, highlighting strong cooperation across water, energy, and other development projects. He noted that both nations maintain a broad-based and comprehensive partnership, with open channels to collaborate and address any issues, reflecting a high level of mutual engagement and cooperation.
