Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed late on Saturday that Pakistan had violated a ceasefire agreement arrived at by both sides through talks mediated by the US.
"For the last few hours, there were repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today," saif the Foreign Secretary.
"The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take very very serious notice of these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility," he said in a brief media brief.
"The Armed Forces are maintaining a strong vision on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the borders along the international border as well as the line of control," he said.
He also said that the violations are condemnable and that Pakistan needs to understand the situation properly and act accordingly.
His statement came hours after India accepted Pakistan's request to cease fire through talks mediated by the US.
