The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for completing the mandatory e-KYC process under the Ladki Bahin Yojana to 31 December, offering relief to thousands of women who were struggling to finish the verification due to technical and documentation challenges. The earlier deadline was 18 November.
Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced the revised timeline on Monday, saying the decision was taken after a detailed review of ground-level difficulties reported from several districts affected by recent natural disasters and network disruptions.
According to Tatkare, the e-KYC process has been progressing rapidly across the state, but many women faced genuine obstacles that made it impossible to complete verification in time. Several districts have recently witnessed heavy rain and other natural calamities, which damaged homes, communication networks and essential identity documents.
A large number of beneficiaries also reported problems receiving the Aadhaar-based OTP required for verification. Officials said this was particularly common among women whose Aadhaar was linked to a mobile number belonging to a deceased husband or father, making OTP retrieval impossible.
“In many such situations, completing the e-KYC within the earlier deadline became impossible,” Tatkare said, adding that the state did not want technical barriers to deprive eligible women of benefits.
Officials said the state leadership was clear that no woman should miss out on the scheme due to circumstances beyond her control. The extended deadline, they said, will give beneficiaries enough time to complete their paperwork smoothly.
“The extended deadline will provide much-needed relief and ensure that lakhs of women can complete the verification process, safeguarding their continued access to the scheme,” Tatkare said in an official statement.
The government has also issued fresh clarity on documentation requirements for women facing OTP-related hurdles. Those whose husbands or fathers are not alive must provide their individual e-KYC details along with a certified copy of the death certificate. Divorced women must submit a divorce certificate or court order.
This, officials said, aims to balance accurate verification with flexibility for women dealing with sensitive personal circumstances.
The Ladki Bahin Yojana is a Maharashtra government welfare scheme that offers monthly financial support to eligible women, especially those from low-income families. To keep receiving the benefits, beneficiaries must complete an Aadhaar-based e-KYC process, which forms a key part of the scheme’s verification and delivery system.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to women’s welfare, Tatkare said the administration’s priority is to ensure that “every eligible woman receives justice”. She urged beneficiaries not to wait until the last moment and to complete their e-KYC well before the extended deadline.
