Madhya Pradesh scales new development heights under Centre-State coordination, says Government

As the Modi government completes 12 years in office, the Madhya Pradesh government says the state's growth across sectors, including infrastructure, industry, agriculture, healthcare, education and welfare, reflects the benefits of policy alignment between New Delhi and Bhopal.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has repeatedly emphasised that Madhya Pradesh is working towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a "Viksit Bharat 2047" while focusing on inclusive growth and improved public service delivery.

Investment Push Drives Economic Growth

The state has witnessed a surge in investment activity through platforms such as the Global Investors Summit and regional investor meets. Government officials say investment proposals worth thousands of crores have been received across sectors.

Large infrastructure projects, including the Delhi-Nagpur Corridor, Atal Pragati Expressway, Narmada Expressway and Indore-Pithampur industrial corridor, are expected to strengthen connectivity and attract industries to the state.

Madhya Pradesh has also expanded its industrial land bank to more than 500 square kilometres while providing investors with access to power and water resources. New road projects such as the Vindhya Expressway, Malwa-Nimar Expressway, Bundelkhand Vikas Path and Madhya Bharat Expressway are expected to further boost industrial growth.

According to state estimates, Madhya Pradesh's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is projected to reach approximately Rs 18.48 lakh crore in 2025-26, with annual growth rates averaging between 9 and 11 per cent in recent years.

Welfare Schemes Reach Millions

The state has also recorded significant coverage under various flagship schemes of the Central government.

Officials said more than 4.69 crore Jan-Dhan accounts have been opened in Madhya Pradesh, strengthening financial inclusion and direct benefit transfers. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, over 89 lakh LPG connections have been provided, while the Jal Jeevan Mission has delivered tap water connections to around 1.11 crore households.

The state government said initiatives such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat have encouraged investments in textiles, pharmaceuticals, electronics and agri-tech sectors, generating employment opportunities for thousands of youth.

Support for Small Businesses

Small entrepreneurs and street vendors have also benefited from government-backed credit schemes.

During the 2025-26 financial year, loans were provided to more than 32 lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana in Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, under the PM SVANidhi scheme, loans worth Rs 2,679.49 crore have been disbursed in nearly 15.87 lakh cases, helping small traders and vendors expand their businesses.

Agriculture Sees Continued Focus

Agriculture remains a major focus area for the state government. Programmes such as PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kisan Kalyan Yojana have provided financial assistance and improved irrigation coverage.

Officials said investments in irrigation, agricultural mechanisation, crop insurance and digital services are helping improve farm productivity. Farmers are increasingly using digital platforms to access weather updates, market prices, pest management information and drone-based spraying services.

The state is also promoting dairy production, agro-processing industries and cattle shelter initiatives as part of its broader rural development strategy.

Urban Development and Housing

Cities including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior have undergone significant transformation under the Smart Cities Mission, with investments in sanitation, mobility and digital infrastructure.

Under the PM Awas Yojana (Urban), more than nine lakh beneficiaries in Madhya Pradesh have received permanent houses. Digital governance initiatives such as Cyber Tehsil have also been introduced to improve transparency and streamline public services.

Healthcare and Education Expansion

The healthcare sector has witnessed substantial expansion, with the foundation stone laid for the state's first Medicity project and a medical college in Ujjain.

The state has added around 5,500 MBBS seats and 2,862 postgraduate medical seats. New hospitals approved in Maihar, Mauganj and Pandhurna are expected to strengthen healthcare access in underserved regions.

Officials also highlighted the implementation of Ayushman Bharat and PM-JANMAN schemes, along with ongoing vaccination campaigns aimed at preventing serious diseases, including cervical cancer.

In education, Madhya Pradesh has focused on implementing the National Education Policy, expanding higher education access and strengthening skill development programmes for youth.

Religious Tourism Gets Air Connectivity Boost

In a move aimed at promoting tourism and pilgrimage, the state government launched the PM-Shri Tourism Air Service and PM-Shri Religious Tourism Helicopter Service in March 2024 under a public-private partnership model.

The service currently connects Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Rewa, Singrauli and Khajuraho, improving accessibility to major religious and tourist destinations.

Cultural Projects Underway

The government is also investing in cultural and spiritual tourism projects. Development of the Ram Gaman Path and the transformation of Chitrakoot into a major pilgrimage destination are among the key initiatives currently underway.

Another major project, Krishna Pathey, seeks to develop and promote sites associated with Lord Krishna across Madhya Pradesh.

Progress on Security and Governance

The state government has also claimed significant success in anti-Naxal operations, particularly in Balaghat and adjoining areas. Officials say Madhya Pradesh has effectively eliminated Naxal influence ahead of national targets set by the Centre.

The administration attributes this achievement to coordinated efforts by security agencies and local authorities.

Focus on Women and Youth

Women's welfare and youth empowerment continue to feature prominently in the state's development agenda.

The Ladli Behna Yojana remains one of the government's flagship programmes, with monthly assistance increased from Rs 1,250 to Rs 1,500. Initiatives such as the Lakhpati Didi mission, support for self-help groups and 35 per cent reservation for women in government recruitment are aimed at increasing women's participation in the economy.

At the same time, investments in schools, colleges and skill development centres are intended to improve employment opportunities for young people.

As Madhya Pradesh continues to pursue its development agenda, the state government maintains that the combined efforts of the Centre and the state administration are helping accelerate growth, improve welfare delivery and bring the state closer to the goal of becoming a key contributor to India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
