Karnataka Truckers Strike: Goods transport across Karnataka took a major hit as thousands of truckers launched an indefinite strike starting midnight, protesting against rising diesel prices and unresolved toll-related grievances.
The protest, led by the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association (FOKSLOAA), saw trucks come to a halt both within the state and across its borders. The federation, representing 129 associations and over 6 lakh members, accused the state government of ignoring their repeated pleas.
Karnataka Truckers Strike: What are their key demands?
- Rollback of recent diesel price hikes ( Rs 5.50/litre rise in the past 6–7 months)
- Abolition of state highway toll plazas
- Removal of outdated RTO border check posts
- Reduction in fitness certificate fees
- City access for transport vehicles during restricted hours
Harish Sabharwal of the All India Motor Transport Congress claimed the strike had seen strong initial support, with trucks halting operations both in and out of Karnataka. However, not all are on board—some factions, including the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners Association and APMC truck unions, have distanced themselves from the protest.
Karnataka Truckers Strike: What’s hit?
- LPG cylinder supply
- General goods movement
- JCB and Hitachi operations
- Petroleum product distribution
- Partial disruption in rice transportation
Karnataka Truckers Strike: What’s working?
- Airport taxis
- Milk, medicine, fruits, and vegetable supply
- Ambulance and emergency services
- Medical shops and hospitals
The strike’s impact has been mixed on the ground. While places like Chamarajpet and Taragupet saw normal rice truck movement, Yeshwanthpur APMC reported a steep fall in incoming vehicles. Vegetable truck arrivals from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have also dwindled.
Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association (FOKSLOAA) has also raised concerns over harassment by toll operators, NBFCs, and the imposition of no-entry rules in Bengaluru that hamper delivery schedules. Talks between transport bodies and the state government are yet to take place, as the industry watches closely for a resolution.
