India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday welcomed the newly announced India–US trade deal, describing it as a significant step forward for jobs, growth, and innovation in both countries.

The agreement was announced after a phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump and has added fresh momentum to bilateral relations.

Jaishankar arrived in New York on Monday to begin his three-day official visit to the United States which he described as an opportunity to strengthen economic links and develop strategic partnerships between both countries.

In a post on social media platform X, he said the agreement would create employment opportunities, support growth, and promote innovation across both economies. He added that a strong economic partnership forms the foundation of the broader India–US strategic relationship.

Make in India and technology ties to gain support

The External Affairs Minister stated that the trade agreement would boost India's Make in India program while promoting secure technology collaborations between India and its partners.

He claims that there exists extensive potential for economic cooperation between the two nations which both parties believe will create new business opportunities through their increased partnership.

Jaishankar’s visit comes at a time of heightened diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Washington.

He will travel from New York to Washington to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday. The meeting will concentrate on two countries which both consider critical minerals as vital for their growing cooperation efforts.

Critical minerals emerge as key area of cooperation

Jaishankar will attend the Critical Minerals Ministerial at Rubio's event during his visit.

The ministerial will bring together partner nations to discuss supply chain resilience clean energy transitions and strategic cooperation in the critical minerals sector.

These materials serve as vital components for advanced manufacturing processes and clean energy technologies and battery production and other developing industries.

The US State Department declared that the ministerial event will enhance global supply chain networks which distribute essential minerals that sustain technological growth and economic development and protect national defense. The conference will be addressed by US Vice President JD Vance.

Public figures and analysts react to trade agreement

The public responded to the trade agreement through their various comments about the deal which included comments from political analysts and governmental representatives.

American singer Mary Millben described the agreement as a moment of reconciliation and she praised both leaders for restoring trust after months of uncertainty. The deal confirmed her belief that diplomats should remain humble while she predicted a positive future for India–US relations.

The chief policy officer at Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies Khanderao Kand welcomed the agreement because it demonstrated how India–US relations function as the main element that connects the Indo-Pacific region.

The agreement will boost cooperation between the two nations in artificial intelligence and quantum technology and cybersecurity and space and robotics and defense through their existing frameworks TRUST and Quad and I2U2.

Political commentator Javed Hassan explained that India achieved better tariff results than other nations which demonstrated India's growing power in diplomatic matters.

Deal expected to deepen strategic and technology partnerships

The two countries will strengthen their economic and strategic and technological ties through the agreement which both officials expect to create deeper partnerships in those three areas during upcoming months of high-level meetings.
