BRICS includes 11 major emerging markets and developing countries of the world - Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
It provides a strong platform for discussing and cooperating on the most significant current issues, both globally and regionally, as well as for the major issues of political and economic governance.
The logo indicates inclusiveness, dialogue, and shared growth contains the three core pillars of BRICS—Political and Security cooperation, Economic and Financial partnership, and People-to-People exchanges—all of which are brilliantly expressed through the logo's visual identity that is made up of the four CORNERSTONES of BRICS.
The portal will help people learn about the BRICS activities and events that will be conducted during India's Presidency via updates.
The Indian chairmanship at BRICS 2023 will have as its theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability' and has been labeled as 'India’s BRICS Chairship'.
The BRIC grouping was already an established fact after the first meeting of BRIC Foreign Ministers, which took place outside the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York in 2006.
The first BRIC Summit took place in 2009 in Yekaterinburg Russia. It was during the BRIC Foreign Ministers meeting in 2010 that the decision to include South Africa and thus change the acronym to BRICS was made.
Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE were the new full members of BRICS in January 2024 and Indonesia in January 2025. Besides, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam incremented BRICS as Partner Countries in 2025.
EAM Jaishankar, speaking at the launch of the BRICS India 2026 website, logo and theme on Tuesday, mentioned that India is taking up its BRICS chairship like a God-sent and a people-focused way, which will involve the whole power of member countries united for the purpose of making the world a better place.
He observed that BRICS has mainly been concerned with the welfare of the people and the dialogue through the years while expanding its agenda and membership according to the changing global realities.
The EAM, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Magh Bihu, and Pongal, showered blessings and said, "These festivals represent in many ways the same things that India's BRICS chairship will do: hope, renewal, and goodwill.
The collective potential of BRICS countries for greater global welfare will be united. We step into 2026 for assuming India's BRICS chairmanship at the moment that is very significant for the grouping's journey."
In 2026, he further stated, BRICS would reach the 20-year milestone since its establishment; it has become a "major platform for collaboration between new markets and developing countries" during this time.
He added that "the current global scenario is characterized by complex and intertwined issues, such as geopolitical uncertainties, difficult economic situations, climate change, technological advancements, and a continuous gap in development that still affects countries from different regions".
According to the Indian approach concerning its BRICS chairmanship, EAM Jaishankar said, "By the way, BRICS is still an extremely relevant platform that facilitates discussions and collaborations as well as providing practical solutions that are aligned with the respective countries' priorities taking into account their levels of development."
He said that India's chairmanship theme 'Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability' reflects India's faith in the cooperation of BRICS countries to overcome common challenges through a balanced and inclusive manner.
