IPL 2020 Unplayed XI: The Indian Premier League is heading towards the business end, with at least 7 out of 8 teams competing for the play-off positions. Over the last 40 days, several players like Devdutt Paddikal, Ravi Bishnoi and Rahul Tewatia have impressed everyone with their match-winning performances. Yet, there are many unfortunate ones who are yet to get a game this season. We make a playing XI of all those players who haven’t featured at all for their sides in IPL 2020. Let’s have a look.
Only till last year, Chris Lynn was destroying bowling attacks in the IPL, while opening the batting for KKR. A switch to Mumbai Indians hasn’t worked out well for the Australian. Despite an average of 33.68 and strike rate of 140.66, he continues to warm the bench for defending champions.
Parthiv Patel (wk)
A domestic stalwart, Parthiv Patel has been more than a useful IPL player for different franchises in the IPL. He has scored over 2800 runs in the IPL at an average of 22.6 but is yet to get a game this season with the emergence of Devdutt Paddikal.
A genuine talent wasted! 25-year-old Manan Vohra is still the second highest uncapped run-scorer in IPL, even though he hasn’t played a single game in last two seasons. Once hailed as the next Virender Sehwag, Vohra warms the bench for Rajasthan Royals these days.
The Punjab batsman had a great start to his career, scoring 753 runs at a staggering average of 125.50 in his debut first class season. He was eventually picked up by Mumbai Indians but abundance of talent in the squad has forced him to be benched.
There won’t be too many better IPL stories than that of Siddhesh Lad. The Mumbai batsman, another prolific run-scorer at the domestic level, made his IPL debut last year after spending five years with Mumbai Indians without playing a single game. This year, he moved to KKR but that match remains to be his only IPL outing.
The 22-year-old West Indies batsman comes with a reputation for hitting the ball hard. He played seven matches for Delhi Capitals last year, scoring a half-century in the process. Picked by Mumbai Indians this year, Rutherford is yet to make an appearance.
Tajinder Singh Dhillon
You may not have heard this name before. The off-spinner from Rajasthan is more than capable with the bat too. Tajinder has made a reputation of hitting really long sixes in domestic cricket. Despite the musical chairs at Kings XI Punjab, he is yet to play a game for the franchise,
Jason Holder (C)
The former West Indies captain was flown in as a replacement for injured Mitchel Marsh at Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since then, he has only been seen discussing plans with the coach. Holder is also the captain for our unplayed IPL XI.
Emerging from the Under 19 scene, Ishan Porel was tipped to be the next big thing in Indian fast bowling. As things turn out, he is yet to play a game in this year’s IPL. With Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh going strong for Punjab, he is unlikely to start anytime soon as well.
Dhawal Kulkarni made his IPL debut in 2008 as a youngster emerging from the U19 scene. He has never hit the heights expected but has been more than a useful IPL bowler. The strong bowling unit at Mumbai Indians led by Jasprit Bumrah has kept Kulkarni out of action so far.
All of us are wondering – how on earth can this happen! But, with MS Dhoni at helm, you can always expect strange things. Last year’s Purple cap winner Imran Tahir hasn’t played a single game for the Chennai Super Kings so far. Since the team wasn’t doing well anyway, it’s sad that he was not given a chance.
