India's Largest Laundry Chain Sets A Strong Footprint In Tier 2 & 3 Towns
We have re-introduced laundry as a modern-day service which is a totally new concept to customers.
Having already established a market-leading presence in metros & tier 1 cities, Tumbledry – India’s largest laundry chain is all set to change the way small towns do their laundry. They have 250+ stores spread across 75+ cities. 28% of these stores are running successfully in Tier 2 & Tier 3 cities like Meerut, Mysore, Gorakhpur, and Haldwani.
On being asked about their successful franchise business model Gaurav Nigam, Founder & Director, Tumbledry, shared “10 years ago, e-commerce was dominant in Tier 1 cities only. But in recent years Amazon and Flipkart have brought a substantial difference in the shopping ecosystem of Tier 2 & Tier 3 cities as well. People accepted the unique concept of online shopping wholeheartedly as it offered ease of access to products. Just like these e-commerce giants, Tumbledry has also changed how people used to see laundry. Earlier they had the paying capacity but lacked good quality service. We saw this gap and filled it with our live stores.”
He further added, “We have re-introduced laundry as a modern-day service which is a totally new concept to customers. And they are loving it. Now, with Tumbledry, they are choosing quality and convenience on a massive scale. As a result, our business is growing at a rapid pace.
And we are optimistic that the laundry industry is going to explode in the near future just like e-commerce sites (Amazon, Flipkart), online food delivery (Swiggy, Zomato), and UPI payments (PayTM, Phonepe).”
What sets Tumbledry apart from other dry cleaners and Laundromats is the uniqueness & robustness of their service model. Gaurav Teotia, Co-Founder & Business Head, Tumbledry, credited the success of the brand to three core aspects: high-quality service, customer convenience, and trustworthiness.
He said: “We have employed Swedish machinery, German organic chemicals and Italian equipment for laundry and the latest Lagoon technology to provide best-in-class dry clean service. Next, our customers get free home pick-up & delivery. They can also use our mobile app to place and track orders conveniently. In our live stores, customers can see how their clothes and other belongings are treated. This completely transparent business model has helped us in becoming the most trusted laundry & dry clean brand.”
On being asked about Tumbledry’s growth, he shared, “95% of our stores achieve operational break-even within three months of launch. Our franchise partners recover their investment within just 24-30 months of launch with an ROI of 84%. Existing partners expand their franchise business with a brand only when they see high growth potential. We are proud to share that 15% of our partners have already opened their 2nd or more franchise stores with us. 35% of all our stores are owned by these franchise partners themselves. This is a big proof that our laundry business is growing exponentially all over India including Tier 2 & Tier 3 cities.”
Currently on a growth spree with the addition of 25-30 stores every month, Tumbledry aims to reach every urban Indian household by opening more than 2000 live stores in urban India by 2026, out of which 50% of stores will be opened in Tier 2 & Tier 3 cities.
