Indian Railways Rajdhani Express set to equal Gatiman Express, the fastest train in India, slash Mumbai-Delhi travel time
Indian Railways has cleared a two-engined Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani express train. With this, the travel time between Mumbai and Delhi will be cut by two hours.
In the coming months, your Indian Railways train journey is expected to be shorter, as the national transporter has approved a new way to ensure you reach your destination in quick time! Indian Railways has cleared a two-engined Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani express train. With this, the travel time between Mumbai and Delhi will be cut by two hours.
Yes, Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express will use two engines, one at each end of the train, front and back, and this has been approved by the Railway Board. The speed of the train will be improved through the ‘push and pull’ method by attaching engines at both ends. This will allow the train to run at a 130 to 160 km per hour, as against the current speed of 110 km per hour.
This is as fast as India’s fastest train Gatimaan Express, according to a DNA report. With this Rajdhani Express trains will now cover the distance between Mumbai and Delhi in just 13 hours 55 minutes against the usual time span of 16 hours. Western Railway is now running this train on trial for a year now. The new method will now be replicated in 12951-52 Rajdhani Express and 12953-54 August Kranti Express, the report said.

The faster Rajdhani Express will cut travel time. The WR and Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO) has submitted a report in this regard to the Railway Board in October-end. As, the proposal has been approved, WR authorities will now identify locomotives that can be attached to the trains.
