India-Russia Talks: EAM Jaishankar to meet Russian Foreign Minister in Moscow today

Jaishankar last visited Russia from August 19–21, 2025, to co-chair the 26th session of the India–Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC). During that visit, he met President Vladimir Putin, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday, November 17, 2025,. The two sides are expected to conduct a detailed review of bilateral cooperation, ongoing diplomatic engagements, and upcoming political initiatives aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Russia.

On Friday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the meeting in a post on X, stating that the discussions would cover “upcoming political contacts,” as well as key bilateral and international issues of mutual interest.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, Jaishankar will arrive in Moscow with a representative group on November 17–18 to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Council meeting. The visit provides an opportunity for India to engage with key SCO member states and discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and multilateral initiatives.

During the meeting, Jaishankar and Lavrov are expected to carefully analyze the current state of India–Russia relations and explore future avenues for expanded political, economic, and strategic cooperation.

In October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with President Putin to review developments in bilateral ties. Modi wished Putin on his birthday and maintained India’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation. He also added, that he looks forward to hosting Putin in December for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit.

The two leaders had earlier met in September during the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where they talked about global and regional issues, including the situation in Ukraine.

President Putin is expected to visit India in December, marking his first trip since 2021.
