The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has begun a large-scale revamp of the capital ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, set to take place in February. The global summit is expected to draw top leaders, policymakers, and AI experts from around the world.

The goal is to give visitors a world-class experience, just like the G20 Summit. NDMC wants to show India’s strength in technology, clean cities, and warm hospitality. Major work is already underway across roads, public spaces, markets, and tourist areas.

The Chief Secretary of the Delhi government is guiding the project to make sure the city looks modern, clean, and welcoming for global guests.

What is the India AI Impact Summit 2026, why is it important?

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 will focus on inclusive artificial intelligence and global cooperation. The main event will be held at Bharat Mandapam on February 19.

Many important places will host meetings and side events, including Vigyan Bhawan, Hyderabad House, Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, Ambedkar Bhawan, five-star hotels, and the India Gate area. Roads leading to popular tourist spots like Connaught Place, Lodhi Garden, Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi Haat, and Nehru Park are also being upgraded.

The summit will place New Delhi in the international spotlight and show India’s leadership in future technology.

Which roads and public areas are being upgraded in New Delhi?

NDMC has inspected all 41 avenue roads under its control. Officials have fixed responsibility for repairs and improvements.

Key road stretches connecting the airport, Bharat Mandapam, tourist hubs, and diplomatic areas are being repaired. Work includes filling potholes, fixing footpaths, repairing damaged grills, repainting central dividers, improving road signs, and removing dark spots.

Streetlights are being repaired to ensure 100 per cent lighting coverage, and overhead cables near monuments are being removed to improve the city’s look. Decorative lighting will also be added to create a festive atmosphere.

How is NDMC improving cleanliness before the summit?

Cleanliness and beauty are top priorities. NDMC’s Horticulture Department is planting colourful flowers and decorative plants at major crossings, parks, and roundabouts. Sculptures, fountains, and public art areas are being cleaned and restored.

A special deep-cleaning drive called “Operation Clean” has started across all 14 NDMC circles, beginning from Connaught Place.

To ensure improved civic amenities, NDMC is prioritising the maintenance of roads and footpaths, achieving 100 per cent functionality of street and pole lights across roads, roundabouts, and market areas, and removing overhead cables near monuments to enhance the city's visual landscape.

It is a collaboration of machines and shopkeepers that keeps the market areas clean, with machines doing daily cleaning of the market and shop owners also taking part in the efforts.

What steps are being taken to improve air quality and environment?

To improve air quality, NDMC is using smog guns, water sprinklers, and mist sprayers. Strict action is being taken against polluters.

These steps are important because many hotels and foreign guests stay in the NDMC areas. A clean and fresh environment will leave a good impression on visitors.

How will NDMC manage security and public activities during the event?

NDMC is establishing a distinct control room and designating officers for the operations to be uninterrupted. It is cooperating with the traffic police and security agencies to facilitate the movement of delegates and proper parking.

In overcrowded places, stray animals will be removed for safety reasons.

Public AI exhibitions will take place at Central Park, Connaught Place, from 16th to 20th February 2026, during which the major companies will showcase their innovations in technology.

With these actions, NDMC's goal is to transform New Delhi into a cleaner, brighter, and smarter place — ready to host the world at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
