A recent case has shown how easy it is for SBI credit card holders to lose massive amounts of their hard earned money. Once the money is gone, there is nothing much they can do except hope for the best. Significantly, the chances of getting that money back is virtually impossible. So it is better to take as many precautions as possible since ditching credit cards is not possible in this digital, cashless payments world.
SBI credit card holders were in for the shock of their lives when an innocent call ended up in their money being withdwawn by miscreants simply because they did not verify the antecedents of the calling person and they did what no credit card holder should do - divulge sensitive information related to their credit cards to strangers and carrying out transactions on suspicious websites. The modus operandi used to rob these State Bank of India customers was quite remarkable and efficient. Notably it involved over 22 people ganging up to carry out this strategy to loot innocent people of their money in Hyderabad. As many as 2000 SBI credit card holders, yes, you read that right, were cheated of their hard earned money, PTI revealed! The amount that was stolen from these credit cards added up to a whopping Rs 5 crore!
The miscreants included 22 telecars, mostly women. They were engaged in running a fake SBI credit card call centre and they were successful in cheating the credit card holders. How did they do it? Simply by calling SBI credit card holders and obtaining their card numbers, including OTP numbers via a website, which was www.jayyshree.com, when they carried out transactions. This was revealed by Cyberabad police.
