Election Results 2026: Vote counting date & time

The counting of votes for West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry will begin at 8 am on Monday, May 4. The process will start with the counting of postal ballots, followed by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Election 2026: Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is seeking a second term in power, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is trying to consolidate its position. The BJP is seeking to expand its influence in the state by allying with the opposition AIADMK.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the statewide voter turnout is projected at 85.10 per cent. Official data shows that of the total 4.87 crore citizens who exercised their franchise, women significantly outnumbered men, marking a significant trend in the state's democratic participation.

According to the official voter turnout report (GETNLA-2026), a total of 48,798,833 votes were cast in 234 constituencies. Demographic analysis shows that 25,259,596 female voters cast their votes, far outnumbering the 23,534,720 male voters. Additionally, 4,517 voters from the "other" category participated in the voting.

Election 2026: Kerala

In Kerala, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is pitted against the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). UDF Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeks to break the state's five-year rotational power tradition. Vijayan returned to power for a second term in 2021.

According to ECI, the turnout was high in Kerala at 78.03 per cent.

"Assam and Puducherry surpassed their highest-ever poll-participation today by recording 85.38% and 89.83% respectively. Previously, the highest poll-participation in Assam and Puducherry was 84.67% (2016) and 86.19% (2011) respectively, an Election Commission release said.

In Assam, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is trying to secure another term against a revived opposition alliance led by the Congress party.
