The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has released a guideline recently for the usage of the anti-COVID drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG). The 2DG medicine can be given to COVID-19 patients under the care and prescription of doctors. The DRDO has released directions for the usage of this drug for COVID-19 patients as per DCGI approval.  
DRDO anti-Covid drug 2-DG's price has been kept at Rs 990 per sachet by Dr. Reddy’s lab. Government hospitals, central and state governments would be provided with the medicine at a discounted price, the government officials have announced. Here are the new guidelines by the DRDO, who can use the medicines, after doctors’ recommendation.

Who Are Prescribed to Use?

<li>The 2-DG drug is an adjunct therapy to the standard of care in the treatment of COVID patients in the hospital setting.  </li>
<li>Ideally, 2DC should be prescribed as early as possible by doctors for moderate to severe COVID patients for a maximum duration of up to 10 days.

<li>Uncontrolled diabetes, severe cardiac problem, ARDS, severe hepatic and renal impairment patients have not been studied yet with 2DG; hence caution should be exercised. </li>

The medicine was developed at the DRDO lab at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), New Delhi, in collaboration with Hyderabad-based pharma company Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL).
