In a major step, the Rekha Gupta–led Delhi government is set to introduce a monthly allowance for women. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Tuesday asserted that the government is preparing to introduce a monthly allowance for women, adding that the groundwork for the scheme is nearing completion.
According to him, a designated committee is finalising the eligibility rules, which are expected to be announced soon.
Sachdeva said the BJP’s governance in Delhi over the past nine months has helped build "great credibility," pointing to measures such as waivers on water-bill surcharges, GST refunds, new DTC buses, improvements to the Pink Ticket scheme, construction of over 75 Arogya Swasth Mandirs and enhanced old-age pensions.
“Women are confident that they will soon start receiving the women's allowance as well,” he said, IANS reported.
With the November 30 MCD by-elections around the corner, Sachdeva launched a sharp attack on the Congress, calling the party irrelevant in Delhi’s political landscape.
He claimed the Congress campaign has been reduced to press conferences and that many candidates are “not even visible” at the ward level.
He dismissed the Delhi Congress President’s criticism of the BJP’s women’s allowance promise as theatrics. “The Delhi Congress President, holding a press conference and calling the BJP's promise of providing a women's allowance a joke, is merely an attempt to appear relevant, but it will not benefit them in the elections,” he said.
“Women in Delhi know very well that the BJP is committed to giving the women's allowance, and making Rekha Gupta the Chief Minister and fielding women candidates in 8 out of 12 wards in the current by-elections is proof of this,” he added.
In a separate statement, the Delhi BJP linked the capital’s ongoing pollution woes to what it described as the AAP government’s prolonged inaction. Party spokespersons Anil Gupta and Neoma Gupta argued that while air quality remains poor, conditions have improved compared to previous years — but further efforts are essential.
They criticised AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj for what they termed unfounded accusations. BJP leaders said the pollution-monitoring body functions independently and warned that repeated attacks on it amounted to “playing with the impartiality of the Election Commission.”
