Weather News: Delhi records minimum temperature of 14.2 degrees Celsius; heat waves predicted in parts of Andhra Pradesh; pre-monsoon in Bihar & Chhattisgarh

According to MeT Office, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 14.2 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees below the season's average on Wednesday, April 2.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted mainly clear skies for the day. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was 50 per cent.

However, the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 37 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

The air quality was recorded in the poor category as the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 AM stood at 201.

Heat waves in Andhra Pradesh

Heat waves are expected to hit 30 mandals around the state on Wednesday, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

12 of the 30 mandals, six are in the districts of Srikakulam, five mandals each in Vizianagaram and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts, 11 in Parvathipuram Manyam, one in Kakinada, and two in East Godavari.

"Several mandals across Andhra Pradesh will experience heatwave conditions on April 2, requiring caution in affected regions," said APSDMA managing director R Kurmanadh.

Scattered light rains with thunder and lightning are likely in Sri Sathya Sai and Chittoor districts on Wednesday, said APSDMA managing director R Kurmanadh in a press release.

According to APSDMA, Ulindakonda in Kurnool and Nelivada in Vizianagaram recorded the maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, followed by 39.5 degrees in Vempalle in YSR Kadapa district. In addition, Rudravaram in Nandyal district recorded 39.2 degrees celsius, while Ravikamatham in Anakapalli district and Nagasamudram in Anantapur district registered a temperature of 39 degrees celsius each. As of Wednesday, the Prakasam Barrage in NTR district has a storage of 3.07 TMC, with inflow and outflow both at 198 cusecs.

Pre-monsoon in Bihar

The weather in Bihar has become very harsh. The weather department has revealed that the next three months may witness severe heat. In many districts, the effect of heat wave is likely to last longer than in other districts. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has also given information about pre-monsoon rains. In some districts the weather may also change.

Rain in Chhattisgarh

There is a possibility of rain and hailstorm in the Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Bastar and Surguja divisions of Chhattisgarh for the next two days. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be thundershowers in many areas of the state. The capital Raipur has been covered with thick clouds since morning and cold winds are blowing.

Rajasthan weather update

The Meteorological Department in Rajasthan has warned of a significant rise in temperatures, with a 3 to 5 degree Celsius increase expected in both minimum and maximum temperatures over the next three to four days. Also, it has predicted rains and cloudy weather in some parts of the state.

On April 5, the maximum temperature in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and surrounding areas is likely to reach 42 degree Celsius, with heatwave conditions anticipated in some places.

A yellow alert has been issued for a heatwave in the western districts on April 5.

However, due to the influence of a western disturbance, parts of eastern and southeastern Rajasthan are expected to experience cloudy weather on April 2 and 3.

Light rain and thunderstorms are likely in Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota divisions on April 3, accompanied by sudden strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph.

The Meteorological Center in Jaipur has predicted thunderstorms and light rain in 15 districts of Rajasthan on April 3 due to the activation of this weather system.
